Online retailers offer free shipping day

The deep store discounts came on Black Friday, the online deals followed on Cyber Monday, and although Friday's retail event doesn't have as catchy of a name, it's still a big win for consumers.

Free Shipping Day kicked off Friday morning.

Check out freeshippingday.com for all the deals. It features almost 2,600 retailers that are taking part. Big stores like JC Penny and Best Buy are offering shipping deals, and so are smaller specialty stores like Camp More and Musician's Friend. Luxury retailers are also in the mix.

If you place your order in the next couple of days, your gifts should arrive in time for the holidays. Many of these retailers use the U.S. Postal Service, so take a look at these deadlines. They also apply to letters or packages you send from home or your local branch.

If you're in a bind, and really need to get something there quickly, UPS and FedEx have got your back. This will likely be the most expensive option, depending on what you're sending, but both carriers say express or overnight options on Friday, Dec. 23 will get there the next day, just in time for Christmas or the end of Hanukkah.

Regular shipments from the carriers sent on that day won't make it until Dec. 27. You should call or stop into a FedEx or UPS store to make sure this is available in your area.

And of course, try to get your packages out a few days before the deadlines if you can to avoid any weather related or other unexpected delays.
Today is going to be a fun day for online deals. For many retailers, this is the last day to choose ground shipping and still get your delivery by Christmas so tons of online stores are offering free shipping!

Black friday and Cyber Monday Deals

Cyber Monday and black friday online deals was Amazon's peak day last year, with more than 13.7 million items ordered worldwide - a record-breaking 158 items per second. This year Amazon.com will open its Cyber Monday Deals Store on Sunday, Nov. 27, adding new deals on popular products all week long at Amazon.com/cybermonday.

is now the company's best-selling item across all of Amazon. And the company issued a reminder in its Cyber Monday press release that mobile shoppers can use its Price Check by Amazon App for iPhone and Android.
Shoppers can use Price Check while shopping in brick-and-mortar stores and can scan a barcode, snap a picture, or say or type a product name to see customer reviews and prices from Amazon.com and its other online merchants. "Customers can then make purchases using 1-Click ordering and with delivery directly to their doorstep," according to the company.

A Geiger counter, also called a Geiger-Müller counter, is a type of particle detector that measures ionizing radiation. They detect the emission of nuclear radiation: alpha particles, beta particles or gamma rays.
Geiger counters are used to detect ionizing radiation, usually beta particles and gamma rays, but certain models can detect alpha particles. An inert gas-filled tube (usually helium, neon or argon with halogens added) briefly conducts electricity when a particle or photon of radiation makes the gas conductive. The tube amplifies this conduction by a cascade effect and outputs a current pulse, which is then often displayed by a needle or lamp and/or audible clicks.
Modern instruments can report radioactivity over several orders of magnitude. Some Geiger counters can be used to detect gamma radiation, though sensitivity can be lower for high energy gamma radiation than with certain other types of detectors, because the density of the gas in the device is usually high, allowing most high energy gamma photons to pass through undetected. Lower energy photons are easier to detect, and are better absorbed by the detector. Examples of this are the X-ray Pancake Geiger Tube. A better device for detecting gamma rays is a sodium iodide scintillation counter.

Good alpha and beta scintillation counters also exist, but Geiger detectors are still favored as general purpose alpha/beta/gamma portable contamination and dose rate instruments, due to their low cost and robustness. A variation of the Geiger tube is used to measure neutrons, where the gas used is boron trifluoride and a plastic moderator is used to slow the neutrons. This creates an alpha particle inside the detector and thus neutrons can be counted.
